consider two dimensions for the world and humans: corporeal and spiritual. the human spiritual dimension may ascend or descend spiritually through the worlds of existence. the four journeys are used in islamic mysticism to explain ascending the stages of existence. these are the journeys: the journey from the creature to the creator, the journey in the truth, the journey from the truth to the creature, and the journey from the creature to the creature. in plato's philosophy, the spiritual journey is explained through dialectical trajectories, the divided line analogy, and the cave allegory. he addressed the spiritual journey in general, without categorizing it. however, his views may be adapted to match these four journeys. hence, plato's spiritual journey is divided into four stages: from the shadows to the idea world; inside the idea world; from the idea world to the sensible world; and among creatures. thus, although the higher stages of existence and the perfect human being differ in these perspectives, the first, second, and fourth journeys are relevant. however, the adaptation of the third journey from these perspectives is not as straightforward. mystics' religious worldview, their emphasis on asceticism and self-purification, and the considerable time gap between the formation of these ideas are the sources of their substantial differences.
