Many developments occurred during the time AghaMohammad Khan Qajar picked Tehran as his capital and the reign of Reza Shah. The historiographical writings of the Qajar and Pahlavi eras reflect some of these shifts. The expressions of these shifts can be found in Ain al- Saltanah's diary. This article uses Ain al- Saltanah's memoirs to describe the changes in the urban fabric of Tehran during the transition from Qajar to Pahlavi rule, and analyzes his views, criticisms, and proposals for Tehran city. This research revealed that alterations in Tehran's urban fabric, which began during the Nasserite era, accelerated throughout Reza Shah's cabinet and reign. As a result, Tehran moved away from its traditional setting and became a comparatively contemporary metropolis.Part of the first Pahlavi period's constructions were required for civil and cultural growth of Iran. For example, civil growth necessitated the construction of office buildings and banks, while cultural development necessitated the creation of scientific and cultural facilities such as colleges, schools, and libraries.
