In the second Intifada of the Palestinian people, the cyber space became one of the resistance fronts and a new phenomenon termed as “cyber Intifada” came into being in which the Palestinians made the cyber space a venue for the conflict of Israeli and Palestinian narratives so that their own silenced voice and narrative may be heard and their historical identity may be reproduced. This phenomenon redefined many of the classic concepts of national resistance and challenged the dominant narrative of the Israelis in the international media. Moreover, the Cyber Intifada strengthened the will to return to homeland among the Palestinian diaspora and mobilized the global public opinion in favor of the Palestinians. On this basis, the present paper explores this phenomenon in an attempt to answer the question what role the cyber space plays in forging the identity and the resistance of the Palestinian nation. To this end, winter’s (2010) theory of performing the Past has been adopted as a theoretical framework to show how the Palestinian
diaspora forge their identity via cyber space. The paper’s hypothesis is that cyber space can be a place for performing the past, thus
strengthening the national identity and the will to national resistance.
