In 145 AH, the first uprising of the Hassanids took place under the leadership of Muhammad ibn ‘Abd-Allah ibn Hassan. It took place while among the Alavids there were more prominent personalities in terms of eldership, scientific status and the number of companions. At the head of them was Imam Ja'far (AS). Meanwhile, among Hassanids, ‘Abd-Allah al-Mahd, Muhammad's father, had a special place. By acknowledging the emphasis sources on the Imam's avoidance of any political activity in the late Umayyad’s period, the question can be asked what factor played a pivotal role in accepting the leadership of Muhammad ibn ‘Abd-Allah and participation of various group in his uprising, despite the fact that his father was still alive? The result of the present study, based on Weber's theory of charismatic personality, indicates that ‘Abd-Allah al-Mahd had a charismatic authority. In the crisis of the late Umayyad period, his successful plan to transfer charismatic authority to his son Muhammad and accept it by his supporters was done by highlighting the characteristics of Nafs Zakyya, using mythical imitation and drawing the attention of the charismatic community among the Hashimid. Therefore, with the continuation of the crisis and the support and propaganda of ‘Abd-Allah at the beginning of the Abbasid caliphate, Muhammad revolted during his father's lifetime and despite not having eldership, he was supported by various popular groups.
