Exchange rate and its volatilities has been one of the most important parameters affecting the Iranian economy which have created shaky conditions in the country in recent years. This study, examines the effects of the exchange rate and its uncertainty on Iran's economic growth process along with the control variables of oil price growth, inflation and their uncertainty and growth of liquidity using seasonal data of 1991-2018 and applying linear VAR and multi-regime nonlinear MRS and MRS-GARCH models. The results indicate that depending on the type of regime and the econometric model, various results are obtained. All of multi-regime models showed that the Iran’s growth trend had different regimes that were changing between low and high regimes and has often been in regime of low growth. The exchange rate growth and its uncertainty in both linear and nonlinear models have a significant negative effect on the growth. Due to the chaostic exchange rate trend, nonlinear models provide more realistic results according to the country's economic situation. The control variables also have different effects on economic growth depending on the type of equation and econometric model. It is advised to policymakers to avoid applying cross-cutting policies to solve the country's daily problems that create an uncertain environment for economic agents and by stabilizing the macroeconomics and unifying exchange rate, take steps to reduce the negative consequences of exchange rate and its uncertainty.
