The present research investigates the impact of excessive collecting of cultural materials (pottery) out of the surface of cultural regions. In this research, any piece of pottery is considered as an object of cultural and historical value which is necessarily in structural correspondence with its environmental and historical- cultural context. Since nowadays a great part of information regarding old systems of life is drawn from knowing the frequency and the scattering pattern of the superficial relics, it seems that their diminishing as a result of collecting objects - which is common in archaeological studies - has led to the loss of a great deal of information which eventually results in non-correspondence of cultural phenomena with their contexts. Continuance of this process not only limits the structure of the models drawn from arithmetical analysis of the scattering patterns of the superficial relics, but also it might be widely criticized from the perspective of conservation and management of cultural works.
In the present research, the disadvantages of the subject under discussion have been drawn practically and through quantitative approaches. The data required for quantitative analysis have been directly drawn from field studies. The results of the data analyses using regression analyses reveals that regarding each unit of study in each collection process, a considerable amount of defining potteries have been separated from their natural environment and as a result their relation to their real contexts has been broken forever. The analyses indicate that the regions which were under the constant investigations and pottery collections will undergo a significant decrease in superficial relics in the near future. In Iran, in which there has been a rapid development of archaeological studies along with an increase in the number of the archaeologists in recent years, this crisis can be regarded as a serious threat in the demolition of such data and eventually in the demolition of some major parts of our cultural heritage.
