Commonly accepted story does not
meet all the conditions of continuous hadith; it
rather signifies a type of story confirmed and
narrated by one, two, three or more
individuals the number or qualities of whom
does not get to the level of continuity in one
dimension or more; this specific type of story
is considered the rule of law and a basic
principle by the scholars.
Religiously speaking, fulfilling the
requirements of commonly accepted stories is
obligatory; however, the final issue is ordered
by watching principles the realization of which
determine the extent of authenticity of the
intended story and the fact that is it Ok to follow
it or not.
Different sects and religions disagree in
regard with accepting or rejecting commonly
accepted stories; the Maliki have conditioned the
acceptance of such stories on lack of contradiction
with the actions and practices of those beloved by
God; for the Hanafis, the main condition is when
the story does not induce sedition and the narrator
does not disagree or negate any part and that the
hadith is in agreement with the analogy, in the
sense that the narrator can easily compare the
hadith with whatever he has learned in
jurisprudence and ijtihad.
However, the fundamentalists and
mediators required five conditions prior to
enacting the rules of a commonly accepted
story: being in line with Islam, duty, reason,
justice and recording (strong memory).
The correct hadith has been quoted from
one righteous to another righteous man,
following the same process from the very
beginning to the end, without contradiction or
negation. Thus, a hadith is correct if it meets
the following five requirements: consistency,
justice of narrators, precise recording,
appropriateness, and involving no distortion.
Consistency means being directly
narrated from one narrator to the next, without
any mediator link or possible additions and
deletions; thus, discontinues, inconsistent,
suspended, and heard through mediator
hadiths does not qualify as correct ones.
The hadiths of commonly accepted
stories are of three types; first, famous hadith
which has been continually narrated by two or
three individuals; second, true hadith narrated
by two individuals heard from two or more
individuals directly; and the third group is
unknown hadith the narrator of which is a
single individual in all levels and dimensions.
