Created on the irrational and the doubtful, the fantasy genre tries to anchor inexplicable supernatural events in a realistic framework. This genre, which was in fashion at the beginning of the 19th century, has undergone modifications in structure, especially in how it presents the supernatural. The present study aims to identify how writers such as Balzac, Merimee, Gautier, Nerval, Barbey D'Aurevilly, and Maupassant describe extraordinary circumstances and what narrative techniques they have used to convince their readers. Whether the story's events are fictional or factual, they are still in doubt. This study was conducted by combining the study of cognitive narrative and typology of works based on the theories of Gerard Genet to examine the narrative structure of the stories. As a result, the present study showed how the choice of perspective, the Spatial-temporal framework of stories, and the position of characters in all narratives were influential in creating a fantastic literature atmosphere in 19th century France. But, even though the authentic framework design and first-person narration provide the conditions to make the stories unique, they are still preserved in all the stories. The narrative techniques have been modified from Balzac to Maupassant. At the end of the century, writers have messed up the border between fantasy and reality so much that it seems complicated and sometimes impossible to separate them from each other, like in Horla's novel.
