AbstractOne of the important concepts of the Holy Qur'an, regarding the family relations of believers, is the concept of "father" and "mother". These two concepts are mentioned six times in five surahs, and in addition, they are mentioned once in the feminine plural form (Valdat) and twenty times in the plural form (Valdain) in various Makkah and Madani surahs. The general opinion of the commentators is that the concept of "Wald" means father and "Walde" means mother. The present article, with a descriptive-analytical method, and by studying the uses of "parent" in Arabic culture and the Holy Qur'an with a thematic view, seeks to find the semantic changes of this word. The findings of the research indicate that both the concepts of "father" and "mother" in the Qur'an mean mother; With the difference that the first concept is sometimes used to attribute the child to the mother, and the second concept is used for the mother with regard to the verb to give birth, but it is applied to the father only in the cases of Deuteronomy and because of dominance. The result is that in the interpretation of the Qur'an, first of all, words should be avoided based on well-known and focused meanings in the mind, and they should be interpreted according to the meanings of their descending era; Secondly, it is permissible to interpret the words of the Qur'an with multiple meanings if it is supported by linguistic evidence.
