Painting, in its specific sense, was continuously employed after Islam during the Abbasid rule, to illustrate books, and was introduced to Iran during the Seljuk period, and then flourished during the Timurid period. Over the centuries, Iranian painting has been governed by general methods and specific principles that have distinguished it from other countries. One of the most specific distinctions of Iranian painting is the use of unrealistic and two-dimensional space, as well as avoiding the representation of real spaces and composition in the western way. The explanation of this category, that is, space and composition in Iranian painting, has always been a point of debate and disagreement between traditionalists and historical thinkers. Based on this, the aim of the current research is to find the points of commonality and difference between these two intellectual views about the causes of the formation of space and special composition in Iranian painting. This article, which is done in a descriptive-analytical method and with a comparative approach, aims to compare the opinions of the
two intellectual spectrums mentioned about the nature of space in Iranian paintings and examine and explain their differences. The question raised here is how traditionalist and historical thinkers have
explained the Iranian painting space. It has been identified with the conducted studies that these two schools of thought have different perspectives and basis of analysis in dealing with Iranian painting .
Traditionalists examine sublime art in the context of tradition and consider the artist to have a mystical dignity and evaluate the way of creating works in this art fully consciously. On the other hand ,
historians, based on historical documents and documents and measurable and evaluable factors, try to present assumptions about Iranian painting.
