"A court scene and the pictures of two pavilions recall vividly the similar compositions already mentioned, and the episode of King Dara in the team of horses shows how persistent the influence of Bihzad's Bustan manuscript still was, almost seven decades after it had been made.
In the Bibliotheque Nationale Khamsa of Jami, in addition to the full - page miniature without text already mentioned, there is a second picture that must also be by him, for it agrees with his style in the treatment of all the details of the landscape background.
Of the other pictures, which are rather genre scnes, one at last bears a signature that is wholly acceptable, and a copy of this meeting the old woman, in a Khamsa of Nizami written in Bukhara for the shaybanid `Abd al`Aziz, now in the Bibliotheque Nationale, which is of outstanding artistic quality.
The miniature representing Anushirvan with his Vazir in this same manuscript shows such a close relation to the two - page miniature, in style, in the types represented, and in the horses, which are even more closely repeated, that the signature: work of Mahmud Mudhahhib, would be accepted without question were there not in finer writing above, the name, otherwise unknown: Muhammad Chihra - muhassan.
(2) These show that in all probability he must have worked directly under Bihzad, and there are likewise close relations to the Master's work in composition, architectural backgrounds, and the types and poses of the figures in the illustrations, several of which are signed, of a Tuhfat al-ahrar of Jami, which was formerly in the Homberg collection."
