"(IRNA, May 2) Iran to Award Darkhovin Oil Field Deal in Summer- Iran's oil minister, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, called for strengthening of regional cooperation in such fields as joint investment and marketing as well as formation of regional consultancy and contracting companies in petrochemical industry.
"Moreover, considerable legal facilities have also been earmarked for this sector," Zanganeh said, stressing that like the two earlier plans, great importance has been laid upon the petrochemical industry as a cornerstone of the country's industrial development because of its comparative and competitive advantages.
Referring to the regional cooperation as one of the issues that will be stressed at the forum, he said that since the Middle East has become one of the premier petrochemical producing and exporting regions of the world and considering its existing capabilities and advantages, such as abundant oil and gas reserves, it has provided an ideal opportunity for mutual and multilateral cooperation among the regional states.
, SABIC, Nematzadeh said his company entered cooperation with the Saudi firm two years ago, adding that NPC buys downstream equipment from SABIC which is interested in purchasing petrochemical products from Iran.
Addressing the Iran's Second Petrochemical Forum, Mady said that Iran is in a favorable position compared to many smaller Middle Eastern or Latin American "distant-from-major-market" producers with respect to developing downstream petrochemical processing infrastructures and producing value-added chemical products.
Further, pointing out Iran's advantage as a major market, Mady said that a large "home market" and established infrastructures for producing value• added downstream chemical products are luxuries many PGCC countries and smaller Latin American and Asian countries may lack at this time."
